If You Take a Mouse to the Movies Review and Christmas Craft
We have a lot of Christmas and Winter picture books we like to read each year. One of our favorites is If You Take a Mouse to the Movies. It is part of the "If you Give a..." series by Laura Numeroff.
This book, like the others in the series, is a circular story that starts with the mouse doing one thing that makes him want to do something else, which in turn makes him think of yet another thing, and on and on. The mouse continually jumps from activity to activity eventually bringing the story full circle where he ends up doing what he started. In the process, children are introduced to sights and activities common to the season.
Each time we read this book, my daughter gets a kick out of the "silly mouse" who makes a mess as he jumps from having a snowball fight to singing Christmas carols to making ornaments and more.One of the first things that Mouse wants to do in this story is string his movie popcorn into a garland for the Christmas tree. When we recently read this part of the story, my 4 year old daughter asked if we could make a popcorn garland. I wasn't sure if she was actually ready for such a task, but I decided it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. I'm glad we did. It took a little troubleshooting, but we made it happen! (See the link below for the tutorial.) Our tree wasn't up yet, so we hung our popcorn garland on our mantle.
