Sophie's Squash is about a little girl who goes to the farmer's market with her parents "one bright fall day." She picks a lovely butternut squash that she wants to keep all for herself. Sophie refuses to let her parents cook the squash for dinner. Instead, she paints a face on it and carries it around everywhere with her.As you can imagine, the squash can't last forever as Sophie's plaything.  Her parents try different ways to get her to give up the squash and choose something else to entertain herself with, but Sophie isn't interested.Just as the squash begins to show signs of decay, something unexpected and beautiful happens.  But you will have to read the book to see how the rest of the story turns out. There is much about this book that will draw young children into the story.  The charming illustrations, Sophie's determined personality, and the strong sense of friendship are sure to grab the reader. Any child, young or old, who has ever formed an attachment to an object, will surely relate to Sophie's Squash. This charming picture book is a new fall favorite in our house.  I'm adding it to my list of Non-Holiday Fall Picture Books for Preschoolers. fall pre-k picture books I'm linking this review to the Kid Lit Blog Hop.  Stop over to see what else is new in children's literature.Connect at the Kid Lit Blog Hop Thanks for stopping by.
