One of the signs of spring is the sight of mallard ducks with their ducklings. Our recent sighting of these feathered friends has inspired me to pull out our copy of Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey.

(affiliate link: see disclosure)

It is a classic book I love about a family of ducklings (you can see more about why we like it here), and although it is a little long for toddlers, it's perfect for preschoolers. (I just abbreviated the text a bit while reading it to Pooky.)

She really seems to like the pictures of Mr. and Mrs. Mallard's eight ducklings. This inspired me to create some duckling printable activities to do as an extension of the story.

Below are a few samples of the free printables.  There are 6 pages total in the downloadable PDF.

These printables can be used to introduce and/or practice the concepts of colors, shapes, and beginning numbers (using one-to-one correspondence). They are designed to be used as matching activities and would be great for playing memory/concentration. The printable with numerals 1-8 could also be used to create a number line. (Just put the numbers in order and you'll see ducklings all in a row.)

Notes:*I recommend printing the pages on white construction paper (or other thick paper). Laminate if desired.*Cut each square along the dotted lines.*These would be great to store and use as a busy bag.In exchange for downloading these free printables, would you please share this post on one of the following forms of social media? I've already created a tweet to make it super convenient for you.[bctt tweet="Preschoolers can have fun while learning with these free Duckling Printables!"]
